Gustav Bolin is a painter of Swedish and Russian origin, he was born in Stockholm and died in Antibes. Freely figurative from 1943-1968, Gustav Bolin’s painting developed from 1969 to 1980 in the field of non-figuration. Then, as he writes in his “Carnets”, “the abstract signs gradually become branches, waves, and so on; and finally human figures. The subject is integrated again. ”
“Between figuration and abstraction, his art is a perpetual search for independence and harmony. His characters move us, his labyrinths daze us, his lights soothe us: each painting is a singular adventure that cannot leave the attentive observer indifferent.” Bertrand Delanoë wrote in 2006 in his preface to the Bolin exhibition at the Paris City Hall.
