Jean Prouv\u00e9, born April 8, 1901 in Paris (14th arrondissement) 1 and died March 23, 1984 in Nancy, is a French architect and designer, craftsman of metal.<\/p>\n
Jean Prouv\u00e9 is the son of the painter and sculptor Victor Prouv\u00e9. In 1916, he was forced to give up his studies due to financial difficulties of the family. He apprenticed to the ironworker \u00c9mile Robert in Enghien, then in 1919 at Szabo. His correspondent in Paris is Andr\u00e9 Fontaine, progressive intellectual who will mark the young Prouv\u00e9 as the artists of the School of Nancy have marked: never to copy. After his military service, in 1924 he set up a workshop in Nancy, with a loan from Saint-Just P\u00e9quart, an intimate member of the family, and from that first year designed his “Reclining Chair” in folded sheet steel, lacquered and canvas2. His first realizations are ironwork for private buildings: Hotel Thiers de Nancy, storefronts in Paris.
